Is anyone aware of a good spreadsheet / website or some useful rules of thumb I can use to determine if it makes sense to buy in my situation. I spent some time looking in the wiki and couldn't find a spreadsheet that would allow me to plug in the expenses and income to determine if it's a good investment or not. The rent vs buy calculators are not really designed for investment properties that you live in part-time. However, I've never bought a home and want to make sure I am looking at the income, expenses, and tax implications* correctly. Next year, I am planning on splitting my time between NYC and Steamboat (remaining a CO resident) and want to see if I can buy a condo or townhome to live here in the off seasons and rent out during the busy seasons. I recently moved to Steamboat Springs, CO from NYC.
